Here at Dr. Peck’s office, we are committed to providing excellent dental care to families throughout the Cincinnati area in a comfortable environment where patients can relax and feel at ease. Here is what to expect during your first appointment and links to patient forms and paperwork.
Making An Appointment
To make an appointment for your initial examination and dental treatments, call our office or contact us online, and one of our friendly team members will be happy to assist you.
To begin, please fill out the new patient form online:
If you haven’t had a chance to fill out the online forms, we will give you the new patient paperwork when you arrive. It would be a good idea to arrive early so you have time to fill them out. We will request your insurance and contact information. We will provide you with information about our office and patient privacy.
Initial Examination
Your initial dental exam will take around one hour. We will ask questions about your oral hygiene routine and your health concerns. We will demonstrate how to properly care for your teeth and make additional suggestions. Our dental hygienist will clean your teeth. Then, Dr. Peck will complete your examination and propose dental treatments.
Pain Concerns
We work to ensure our patients feel comfortable, including minimizing pain as much as possible. Dr. Peck will discuss your pain tolerance and create a plan for pain management. Working together, we will treat your dental health problems in a way that minimizes pain and enables you to get back to your life faster.

Financial Policy
If necessary, we will help you navigate the sometimes-confusing process of dealing with your insurance company. We have coordinators who know how to find out what will be covered in your plan and we will do what we can to make sure you get the treatment you need.
There are options if you need to finance your care, and we will help you find something that works for you and your circumstances. Please give us a call if you’re concerned with the costs of treatment. We’ll help you find options.
Comprehensive New Patient Exam
Dr. Fred Peck believes that to have a beautiful smile you must first have a healthy smile. So, with each new patient, we do a comprehensive exam. The exam begins with a review of the patient’s medical and dental history and any specific dental concerns they have.
Photos are then taken, and an explanation is given to the patient of what to expect during the rest of the exam.
Dr. Peck does an oral cancer screening, thoroughly examining the tongue, gums, cheeks, roof of the mouth, and the skin around the mouth.
After the oral cancer screening, Dr. Peck begins the TMJ and bite examination. He begins by gently placing the jaw joint in a variety of positions, checking for tension or tenderness. Dr. Peck also checks for signs of grinding or clenching. Then, he checks your muscle strength and bite.
Next, Dr. Peck does a complete periodontal examination, checking for loose teeth and gum disease. He inspects every tooth for any visible problems such as signs of wear, hairline cracks, defective fillings, cavities, or ditching of the tooth at the gum line.
Dr. Peck ends the exam by listening to the jaw joints with a TMJ Doppler. After the exam is completed, a full set of x-rays is taken to look for any hidden issues. The health of the mouth can directly affect the health of the entire body.
My dental appointments with Dr. Peck and his staff are always pleasant and efficient. He continually updates procedures to provide the best possible dental care. Even though my insurance coverage changed, I will continue to see Dr. Peck and his staff because they are the best!
