Porcelain Veneers: Our Process
Here’s how we design and craft your smile, from start to finish.
Consultation
The first step is a consultation with Dr. Peck, a time for us to listen closely to your aspirations so that the smile we create is one that you’ll love for years to come. To get the conversation started, Dr. Peck will ask:
“Am I giving you a smile from your past or one that you’ve never had?”
During the design process, we love to see visuals of your ideal smile. Feel free to bring along past photos that show the smile we’re recreating or pictures that inspire you, if the smile you’re envisioning is an entirely new look for you. To help you narrow in on your ideal image, we can also show you photos of our previous smile makeovers. In addition to your goals and preferences, Dr. Peck will consider your facial aesthetics and recommend the smile design that best complements your facial features and aligns with your aspirations.
Once we arrive at a design, we’ll make a wax model of it so that you can see what it will look like. To do this, we’ll take digital impressions of your smile to create a model of your smile as it is. Then, we’ll use wax to shape and position each tooth precisely to give you the look you want. This way, you can see the whole design in a life-size model, and we can make any necessary adjustments to the design until you absolutely love it. We’ll use the finalized design model to create your first set of provisional veneers.
At this initial visit, Dr. Peck will also confirm that your gums are healthy. We know that you’re investing in your smile and want to make sure that your porcelain veneers are placed on a healthy foundation. If everything looks good, we’ll schedule your first porcelain veneers appointment.
First Veneers Appointment
At this appointment, Dr. Peck will prepare your teeth for your porcelain veneers. If your smile design involves no-prep veneers, this may not be necessary. When he does prepare the teeth, he gently removes a thin margin of the surface of the enamel, a fraction of a millimeter. Preparation helps enable the ceramist to create a smooth, undetectable transition at the edge of the veneer, without any ridges. We’ll then take a digital impression of your prepared teeth, which will be used to convey specific measurements to the dental laboratory for a completely customized fit. Then, Dr. Peck will apply your provisional veneers to your prepared teeth. This will give you a chance to try out your new smile in your everyday life. You’ll wear these temporary veneers home and experience life with your new smile. Then, we’ll have you back for a follow-up visit to hear how you like it.
Follow-Up Visit
Now that you’ll have had the opportunity to try out your new look, we’ll want to know how it’s working for you. Is there anything you’d like to change? If so, Dr. Peck will adjust the design and, if needed, schedule another follow-up appointment.
Once you love the image your temporary veneers give you, we’ll create an impression of them and send them to our master ceramist. He’ll re-create the design in beautiful porcelain.
Try-In Appointment
At this point, your porcelain veneers will be here and ready to become your permanent smile! But we won’t bond them just yet—we want to make absolutely sure you love them first. Dr. Peck will apply a try-in paste so that you can experience the look and feel of your new smile. We are confident that it will be love at first try-in. In the rare case that any adjustments are needed, we will send the veneers back to the lab for any changes or to even have them remade. With your enthusiastic approval, Dr. Peck will bond your porcelain veneers, and your smile transformation will be complete.
