Cincinnati Same-Day Crowns
Why do in two appointments what you can get done in one? If you need a crown, Dr. Fred Peck can send you home with a permanent one in the same visit—no temporary crown needed! Here’s how our modern CEREC technology makes the convenience of same-day crowns possible.
What is the Traditional Process for Placing Crowns?
Ordinarily, a permanent crown is placed in two appointments:
- First visit: The tooth is prepared and an impression is taken and sent to the laboratory so that the crown can be crafted.
- Second visit: Permanent crown is placed after it arrives from the lab.
In the time between the two appointments, a temporary crown is worn. Since this process isn’t always ideal for patients, we use the CEREC system to offer you the convenience of same-day crowns.
CEREC Technology
Using CEREC technology, we can produce your crown in our office while you wait. The computerized system cuts the crown out of a ceramic block to precisely fit your prepared tooth and to perfectly occlude with the opposing tooth. Ready in minutes, you can go home with a completely restored tooth—no need for a temporary crown or a second appointment!
When Are Same-Day Crowns Used?
In our practice, we use same-day crowns for back teeth. The type of ceramic out of which they are made, lithium disilicate, is very strong and durable. For aesthetic purposes, Dr. Peck selects the ceramic block that most closely matches the color of your surrounding teeth.
Crowns for teeth in the “smile zone,” though, require attention to finer aesthetic details, such as translucency, light reflectivity, and color variation. This requires extra attention beyond just a basic color match. For these teeth, we recommend our beautiful porcelain crowns, which are composed of a lithium disilicate core layered with porcelain crafted to mimic all of the aesthetic nuances of a natural tooth.
