Dental Bonding Staining After One Week!
Posted by writeradmin
Help! I had dental bonding done to close a tooth gap. It was a pretty big gap, so when the bonding started staining, it became noticeable. I makes me look like I have something giant stuck between my teeth. I’ve only had them a little over a week. I do drink coffee. Is that the problem? Is there anything to help this?

Dear Cathey,

While your dental bonding will get stained over time, one week is way too soon. My guess is you have a decent family dentist who is trying to do cosmetic work. He or she is probably using the same type of basic bonding material that they use for fillings. This doesn’t work for cosmetic work.
The bonding material is made from a blend of resin with inorganic fillers. There are a variety of fillers used, all of which serve a different purpose. Hybrid composites are larger and stronger, but they cannot be polished to that beautiful shine you’d want. Mirofills are are able to get polished to a luster that rivals human enamel, but it isn’t as strong.
Skilled cosmetic dentists keep a large selection of these options. To keep strength and luster, they will put the hybrid on the interior for strength, then the microfill on the surface for luster. It’s possible your dentist doesn’t even know this is an option. I would show him this blog and ask them to fix it or, if they don’t want to invest in the other materials and diamond polishing kit (which will also be needed), to refund your money so you can have this done by an expert cosmetic dentist. I would go to an AACD accredited dentist in this situation. They’re the best cosmetic dentists in the country.
You mentioned your gap was large. You didn’t say how large. For large tooth gaps, porcelain veneers would be a better option. Some gaps are big enough for an extra tooth. Bonding would look very odd in that situation.
As for the coffee drinking, you don’t have to give it up, but I would recommend that you get Supersmile Toothpaste. It safely cleans surface stains off of restorative work and natural tooth structure safely.
