Nightmare Dental Bonding Repair
I had dental bonding done to repair a chipped tooth several years ago. The color needed updating. I went to my new dentist for this because my old dentist retired. This is where the nightmare began. After she did the “update” here is what I ended up with:
- The color was too white
- One tooth is longer than the other
- The bonding on the teeth have two different, very obvious textures
- There is a gap between my teeth that wasn’t there before her update
You’d think that would be a disaster enough. I started by asking her to shorten the tooth that she made longer than the other. Something, she honestly should have done without my asking. Apparently that was too much to ask, because when she was done the shorter tooth was now damaged to where the middle went up in an inverted V. I asked her to please straighten that out and that when she does to fix the color and texture, and get rid of the gap she created.
She made all kinds of excuses and then told me to give it a few days to see if I adjust to it. If I don’t, she’ll use the one I have as a baseline and go from there. I’m not sure I want to go through all of this with her again. Can I just go to a different dentist? Can I get my money back?

First, I will not hold out any hope that this dentist will get it right. Above is an image of dental bonding done beautifully. As you can see it blends in flawlessly with the rest of the tooth. My suggestion would be for you to look for an expert cosmetic dentist to get this redone. The best cosmetic dentists are fellows with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (FAACD). This goes even beyond accreditation. These are the best of the best cosmetic dentists.
I would see them and have them evaluate your smile without knowing who the dentist is. If things are as bad as I think, they’ll have no problem saying that this is a disaster. It will help if you have images of your teeth without the gap, before your dentist did her work. These should help you get a refund. Then, you can let the advanced dentist give you the dental bonding repair you deserve.
