Should My Dentist Give Me a Refund on My Dentures?
Posted by writeradmin
I needed a replacement for my overdentures that attach to my mini implants. I also was in the process of being transferred to another position out of state. I had eleven weeks before I had to move. I called my dentist and asked him how long it would take to replace my overdentures. He told me three weeks. It ended up taking nine weeks. But, when I went in to have them placed, they didn’t fit. The dentist worked for quite some time trying to get them attached. My mouth was quite sore. Later that night I was so sore that I couldn’t even eat noodles. I was able to get the denture off and suck down the noodles. The next day, I couldn’t get the dentures back in so called them. They had me come in. I had to see a different dentist because mine was out that day. This dentist told me that the problem was the dentures. One side was leaning, so they weren’t going to hit evenly even after I got them in, which would cause pain. Plus, the holes weren’t properly drilled so that is why I’m having trouble getting them on. He suggested we redo them. But, I now leave in a week and a half, which is not enough time. What do I do?

Dear Oliver,
It sounds like you are dealing with snap-on dentures, rather than permanent implant supported dentures. Given how they’ve handled the entire situation, I would not let them re-do the fixtures at all. Just tell them that you moving and they did not provide you with a functioning denture, which their own dentist admitted. Then ask for a refund.
I also recommend that you start looking for a dentist now in your new area. You want someone who has post-doctoral training in dental implants. It would also be helpful to take a peek at their patient reviews. This can give you some insight into the dentist and their practice.
You should not have any trouble getting that refund. If you do, let us know and we’ll give you some steps you can take to change their minds. I don’t think it will come to that, though.
